Over-5000-Inches-Of-Mule-Deer-Mass-Taken-With-Easton-Arrows.jpg

Cave Creek, Arizona—Randy Ulmer, recently added another 200-inch brut to his long list of big deer. Added up in total, that means over 5000 inches of mule deer mass that Randy has taken over the years. All told, Randy has harvested over 20 deer that scored over the magic 200-inch mark—all with Easton arrows. Randy has used ACC, Carbon Injexion and, with this latest buck, 5mm FMJ’s. “I spent all summer scouting for one great buck,” said Randy. “When it came time for the shot, I knew my arrows would perform perfectly. I started shooting when I was 10 and have taken every buck and bull with Easton—without a single failure,” Ulmer continued. “That’s really saying something because I’ve been at it for 50 years now.” Easton is proud to have Randy on the team and congratulates him on a great start to another fall season.

How-to-Use-Your-QuietKat-E-bike-for-Overland-Adventure.jpg

With the increased popularity of adventure photographers, travel bloggers, brand influencers and ambassadors, it’s no wonder that Overlanding is blowing up in the social media world. Some of the best adventure stories on Pinterest and Instagram take place on a 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep Wrangler or a custom built off-road military vehicle of any variety. However, there are without a doubt, certain occasions that occur along every Overland trip where your mothership vehicle just can’t quite get through. With a QuietKat E-bike you can get further off that beaten path and to more of those destinations your overland vehicle can’t quite reach.

If you’ve been overlanding, you’ve been there – miles-in on a dirt road, crawling into the sunrise without a single thought of turning around. Then the road turns into a double track – still no second thoughts. But then the double track ends and your stuck on a single-track trail in a dense forest and no way to continue on. With a specific destination in mind, most of us would start up the old chevro-legs and walk the rest of the way, but what if you didn’t have to?

“Quiet”Kat – Nothing to Shut Up About

QuietKat All Terrain, All Electric Bicycles are making a come up in the Overlanding industry as a must-have accessory for every off-road adventure. These rugged machines will take you 40+ miles further up the trail on a single battery and will overcome any obstacle your overland vehicle can take on and then some.

Don’t feel like you need to work harder to get to that majestic mountain view or the torrential waterfall still four miles up the path. Based out of Eagle, Colorado, QuietKat

E-bikes are manufactured to withstand any elements and designed to take on the craggiest trails and even unmarked terrain. The 4.5-inch – 4.8-inch tires glide over almost any surface and the suspension makes for a smooth ride, even over the harshest landscapes.

A Multi-Purpose Tool

While Overlanding is about staying away from the crowds and exploring the unknown, there is no way to avoid going into the city or largely populated area with your excursion vehicle every once in a while, to re-fuel, re-energize, and/or take in the city life and culture. But that large overland vehicle can be a pain in the butt to park and maneuver around the city streets. You’ll go crazy if you have to find parking for that tank more than twice in a metropolis. QuietKat E-bikes will come in handy when you’re simply trying to get from one spot to another in the crowded streets of largely populated township.

Park your overland vehicle and mount onto an E-bike to get to and from your hotel, hostel, restaurants, bars and wherever else the city streets may take you!

An Accessory Inside of Your Accessory

One of the best things about these E-bikes, and similar to your bad-ass overland vehicle, is that QuietKat’s are very customizable with a wide variety of accessory items. They have waterproof saddle bags, rear pannier racks, spotlights, and even cargo trailer options that will instantly turn a mere E-bicycle into its own form of overland vehicle. Soon, QuietKat will be manufacturing an item that will make them 100% carbon-footprint-free: a portable solar charger manufactured specifically for their E-bikes. The harnessing of this kind of groundbreaking technology raises further questions – are QuietKat Electric Bikes really just an overland vehicle? And How far could one go using just one of these insanely rugged electric bikes?

Vermont-Bear-Hunters-to-Aid-Wildlife-Scientists.jpg

MONTPELIER, Vt. –The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is again reminding successful bear hunters that a regulation requires them to submit a bear tooth so wildlife managers can collect important information on Vermont’s bear population.

Teeth submitted by hunters are used to determine the ages of bears. Wildlife biologists use age and sex data to estimate the number of bears in Vermont and to determine the status and health of the bear population. Envelopes for submitting teeth are available at all big game check stations.

“Successful bear hunters will be helping in our management of this magnificent big game animal,” said Forrest Hammond, bear project leader for the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department. “The premolar tooth we’re asking hunters to extract is small and easy to loosen with a knife. Directions for removing the tooth are on the back of the envelope provided by the check station, and a short video showing tooth removal is linked on our website.”

Vermont has two bear hunting seasons. The early bear hunting season, which requires a special bear tag, starts September 1 and continues through November 15. The late bear season begins November 16 and continues through November 24. The limit for bears remains one per calendar year.

“Carefully regulated hunting plays a very important role in scientific wildlife management by helping to control the growth of Vermont’s bear population now estimated at being well within the 2010-2020 Big Game Plan population objective of 4,500 to 6,000 bears,” said Hammond. “Minor fluctuations in the bear population will always occur due to changes in food availability, winter severity and hunter success. Despite these fluctuations, we look at the long-term trends to manage for a healthy, robust population.”

ROANOKE, Va. (August 28, 2019) — September is Tree Stand Safety Awareness Month and is the month that most hunters head back to the woods to hang stands in preparation for the upcoming hunting season. Tree Stand Safety Awareness Foundation’s (TSSA) mission is to significantly reduce tree stand accidents through promotion, education and best practices and our goal is to reduce the estimated number of incidents 50% by 2023. TSSA strives to ensure that every hunter comes home safe to their family and friends.

TSSA has designed an educational campaign called the “ABC’s of Tree Stand Safety” to serve as the building blocks to the awareness campaign (attached infographic). Our goal this year is to distribute at least 500,000 (print & electronic) to promote the safe use of tree stands. Please let us know if you are able to assist in meeting this goal through electronic distribution.

? Always remove and inspect your equipment

? Buckle on your full-body harness

? Connect to the tree before your feet leave the ground

By performing these 3 simple steps, tree stand users can virtually eliminate their risk of falling to the ground as the majority of falls occur outside the stand. TSSA encourages all hunters to take tree stand safety seriously, every time you hunt from, hang, or remove a tree stand.

TSSA is also excited to share that we are continuing to see positive changes in the estimated numbers of falls that requiring emergency care on a national level. Based on the 2018 data, there were an estimated 3001 tree stand falls requiring an emergency department visit. This reflects adecrease of 46.5% (2010 – 2018) in the number of estimated falls requiring an emergency department treatment (source NEISS, 2018). This significant drop in the estimated number of falls reflects the industry wide efforts of TMA, NBEF, WTU, IHEA, NDA, state DNR’s, our supporting partners, TSSA and others focusing on tree stand safety.

While we are making great progress, it’s important that we continue the industry efforts to support this momentum and meet or exceed our goal of reducing the estimated number of incidents 50% by 2023. To accomplish this, let’s get the season started by putting safety first.

Hunters and members of the industry alike can help spread the message of TSSA Foundation. Visit the TSSA website at https://treestandsafetyawarenessfounda.godaddysites.com/ or on social media at www.facebook.com/TreeStandSafetyAwareness or www.twitter.com@TreeStandSafety .

Chatfield, MN. – The Pope and Young Club announces all trophy entries are now being accepted electronically via email to Lisa@pope-young.org or records@pope-young.org. In addition, entries are also accepted via fax to 507-607-0668.

Once you’ve had your trophy measured by a certified P&Y or B&C measurer, the measurer can submit the entry by either using the electronic score sheets found currently on our website and signing via ‘e-signature,’ or by filling out manually, scanning and emailing or faxing in the entry.

The preferred format for the electronic entry submitted by the measurer is .PDF or .JPG files. Photos can also be submitted electronically. When emailing entries and photos, measurers, please note in the subject line the hunters’ name, animal species, and score. This is especially important if submitting several animals for the same hunter.

Submission payment options:

1) Call into the office at 507-867-4144 and make your credit/debit card payment.

2) Go to www.pope-young.org; click on “SHOP,” then “MEASURERS MERCHANDISE.” Choose either the entry submission payment or the entry submission with intro membership payment option. When filling out the payment, either the hunter or the measurer can do this; the purchaser details will be the name of the person paying for this entry. (If this name is different than the hunters’ name, you must then fill in the “ship to” section with the hunters’ name to ensure that the payment gets submitted with the correct entry). If the hunter has several submissions, they can purchase as many as needed. If the measurer is doing this for several different hunters, each hunter must have their own purchase.

“I am incredibly excited about accepting electronic entries,” said Lisa Kohlmeyer, Record/Entry and Official Measurer Coordinator for the Pope and Young Club. “This has been something that has been in the ‘works’ for some time now and is finally coming to fruition. We have been accepting emailed/digital photos for about three years now, and I love that process. I am hopeful that with the ease of submitting and accepting entries in the same manner, it will lead to more entries submitted and happier hunters and measurers.”

The Pope and Young Club is a non-profit North American conservation and bowhunting organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of bowhunting by striving to increase awareness and appreciation of bowhunting foundations, principles, and values. The Pope and Young Club is focused on Fair Chase hunting ethics that support the ethical pursuit of free-ranging, wild game animals without unfair advantage while promoting the conservation of both habitat and wildlife. The Club also maintains the universally recognized repository of records and statistics on North American big game animals harvested with a bow and arrow.
