Montana's general big game hunting season has reached the midway point for 2025. In south-central Montana, hunter numbers and animal harvests have been consistent with last year at this point. Against long-term averages, however, there is more variability across the region's check stations.

Maryland hunters harvested 18,930 deer during the early portion of the 2025 archery and muzzleloader seasons. The harvest was an 8.1% decrease from last year's official harvest of 20,592 deer for the same period.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department warns hunters to be wary of ice conditions. In some parts of the state, there are smaller waters that show the appearance of safe ice. Hunters should be cautious of walking on frozen stock ponds, sloughs, creeks and rivers.

After three weekends of big game general hunting season, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks hunter check stations in west-central Montana near Anaconda, Bonner, and Darby are collectively reporting harvest totals for both white-tailed and mule deer slightly up over 2024 and the five-year average.

Whitetails Unlimited issued grants totaling $637,480 fostering their DEER (Developing Educational and Environmental Resources) Program this past fiscal year.

Applications for Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grants will be accepted from Nov. 12 to Jan. 16. RTP is a federally funded grant program administered through Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks that awards approximately $1.5 million annually.

The Wisconsin DNR and the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin (NRF) announce that over $100,000 from the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund will be supporting six habitat projects on public lands this year in Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Ozaukee and Wood counties.
