The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has completed its 2025 spotted lanternfly monitoring efforts, confirming a new population in Jackson County thanks to a report submitted by an attentive Michigander through the Eyes in the Field reporting tool.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks' Havre hunter check station has been open on weekends since and will continue through the end of general deer and elk rifle season on Nov. 30. Overall, hunter numbers are slightly down from last year and the long-term average with 823 hunters passing through the station so far this year.

Commissioners of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) voted to approve proposed amendments to wildlife trapping rules for advertising in the Florida Administrative Register. The rule proposals are expected to be brought back before the Commission at a future meeting for a final hearing.

Fortunately, two hunters are uninjured after an encounter with three grizzly bears on the morning of Nov. 5 on the Pyramid Pass Trail east of Seeley Lake. The hunters had harvested a mule deer buck earlier in the morning and were hiking to retrieve the deer when they encountered the bears.

At its November meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) proposed new management regions and regulation changes for spotted seatrout. The proposed new regions would allow the FWC to better capture local differences in the fishery using an adaptive holistic management approach.
