At its November meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) proposed new management regions and regulation changes for spotted seatrout. The proposed new regions would allow the FWC to better capture local differences in the fishery using an adaptive holistic management approach.

The Gulf Council took final action on Shrimp Amendment 19 which considers what action to take when the moratorium on the issuance of new federal Gulf commercial shrimp permits expires on October 26, 2026. The Council decided to extend the moratorium for 10 years, until October 26, 2036.

The announcement is a result of FWC's adoption of a revised oyster management plan for Apalachicola Bay which will establish annual seasons based on oyster abundance.

Sandhill cranes by the thousands are once again returning to their wintering grounds at the Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area in southeastern Arizona. The best time to view the cranes is 30 minutes before and after sunrise, just before they leave to feed for the morning.
